Professionalism and ethics

Qualified as Antenatal Teacher with NCT 1998, following 2 1/2 years' study and assessment, with numerous study days attended since
During the last 25 years I have attended numerous study days, conferences and short courses to ensure that my practice in all fields of my work is up-to-date, professional and ethical.
I also offer CPD (continuing professional development) training workshops to other counsellors and student counsellors, and have provided training to other professionals (midwives/student midwives, hypnobirthing students).
Professional Membership
I am an accredited member of NCPS (National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society) and as such am listed on the Professional Standards Authority Accredited Register. I adhere to the NCPS code of ethical practice.
Confidentiality
Counselling sessions are normally confidential. Counsellors are obliged to break this confidentiality in certain situations, for example where I believe you or another adult or child might be at risk of serious harm. I would always aim to speak to you first before sharing information with another, except in an emergency.
Supervision
It is considered good practice for all counsellors to attend regular supervision sessions to talk about and seek guidance and greater clarity about their work. During supervision, clients are never identified by their full name and no client contact details are shared. Supervision assists and supports me to work professionally with you so that you benefit as much as possible from the counselling process. Supervisors are also bound by a code of ethics from their chosen professional body and have the same obligations to protect confidentiality and clients’ identities as I do.
